A dirty dozen of foreign insects and plants are apparently making their way around Australia, posing a threat to ecology.
Among the worst of them is the red imported fire ant according to the Invasive Species Council.
The eucalypt-killer myrtle rust, red-eared slider turtles and yellow crazy ants are some of the other culprits.
Invasive Species Council CEO, Brian Cox called for the government to act by setting up a biosecurity fighting fund paid for by air and sea levies, basing a biosecurity “champion” within the federal environment department and the compilation of a national priority list of invasive threats.
