The world’s longest insect is a stick insect approximately half a meter long, which was recently discovered in South China.

The  stick insect measured 1.6 feet and surpassed the length of the previous longest insect, a Malaysian stick insect measuring just 56.7cm.

The scientist Zhao Li had been looking for the bug for six years after being tipped of by locals of the massive insect.

Zhao said the insect looked like a branch or twig but once he realised it was the insect he was looking for, he discovered its legs were as long as its body.
