If you live in the Macarthur region of Australia, you’ll be interested to know that you live in the region with the world’s loudest cicadas.
These insects have been known to make a more piercing sound than a Boeing 737 in the air.
According to an expert and researcher Dr Nathan Emery, the shrill of cicadas could be louder than ever this year, as the region is home to some of the loudest species of the insect in the country, if not the world including the double drummer, cherry noser and green grocer species.
Volumes of these cicadas can reach in excess of 120 decibels. Source: https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/newslocal/macarthur/dr-nathan-emery-reveals-macarthur-region-home-to-worlds-loudest-cicadas/news-story/1bb6c9ef7372b31dac412a4d833e384e
