Virginia Tech researchers have discovered a way of transforming female, disease causing mosquitoes into harmless male mosquitoes.

Female mosquitoes rely on blood to nourish developing eggs. While sucking this blood, she transfers the disease causing parasite or virus into the blood, causing diseases such as malaria, dengue fever, yellow fever and chikungunya virus.

Researchers believe that if the number of female mosquitoes are reduced, so will the occurences of the transmission of these diseases.
